Seeing that they have a common enemy, Dato’ Onn and Tun Tan Cheng Lock started the UMNO-MCA cooperation. Tun Tan Cheng Lock was actually came from the opposition, All Malaya Council of Joint Action (AMCJA) which included the Angkatan Pemuda Insaf (API) headed by Ahmad Boestamam and several other Malay parties. On 27th February 1949, a Chinese activist, Tun Tan Cheng Lock, who opposed the Malayan Federation Constitution, formed the MCA and was elected its president, with the support of Leong Yew Koh and T.H. Tan.

UMNO was an obstacle to the lefties groups who wanted to form a government along the lines of Indonesia. Meanwhile, MCA was seen by the Malayan Communist Party (MCP) as an obstacle to its ambition to form a communist state in Malaya. That’s why UMNO and MCA started to cooperate each other, whereby you can see it until today.

For God sake, in 1949, the MCP clearly demonstrated its opposition to MCA by throwing hand bombs into Perak MCA Hall, injuring Tun Tan Cheng Lock and several others.

Communist, please stop. Yes, thank you :)

pride without bloodshed

Prior to independence, Tunku Abdul Rahman had given the Malayan Communist Party the opportunity to surrender. Eventually, the MCP wanted to be acknowledged, but then Tunku refused.
In the talks held with the MCP in Baling on 28th December 1955, Tunku offered amnesty on 2 conditions: lay down their arms and returned to China.

Tunku chose not to seek independence in the same way as Indonesia or other Asian as well as some African countries. He convinced by the success of Malays when they peacefully protested against the formation of Malayan Union (which was wanted by the British to be established in 1956) instead Federation Government was formed on 21st January 1948..

However, more 50 years after independence, it has been proved to the world that Malaysia is now more stable  and respected. Malaysia's defence strategy shocked the world an incurred the wrath of the Western world. Seriously. I've heard this from one of the Malaysian army who told me by the ears.

Therefore, it has now been clearly shown that struggle does not necessarily have to be bloody in order to be honourable :)

Malaya independence on 31st Aug 1957 through the constitution (UMNO+MCA+MIC) = Alliance Party under the late Tunku Abdul Rahman did not have the blessings of everyone in Malaya (as today's known Malaysia). PAS led by Dr. Burhanuddin Hilmi and Parti Rakyat under Ahmad Boestamam and Ishak Hj Mohammad are the lefties and pro-Indonesia. By their perspective heads, the independence was empty and meaningless. Credited to Parti Rakyat, their motto was independence through BLOODSHED. ("thru the bloodshed-waka-waka" said of one of my roomates, abg hafiz)
The late Tunku Abdul Rahman was criticized as a stool pigeon of the Britts and also a puppet of the colonial masters.
The thing is, why did Ahmad Boestamam and his Parti Rakyat set their motto's of independence through BLOODSHED?
actually their feelings were based on the fact that even though Malaya was independent, there were British Army bases, foreign-owned properties had not been seized and there were foreigners still in the police force and administrative bodies in the country.
